Can someone give me some tips for getting past section 5-4 of Luxor?
I’ve been playing for ages and can’t pass that section no matter what I try!

Arlene, Level 5-4 drove me crazy for a couple of WEEKS. I was about ready to think that I’d never get past it, but I eventually did. I’m sorry to report that you will discover an even harder version of this level on 8-4 and then an even harder on at 11-4. :-)

It’s worth getting past, though. Here are the only things I can think of to help you. The key to this round (as you’ve probably figured out) is that you have to get the majority of each string before it enters the tunnel at the bottom left. Once they’re coming out there, you can’t reach the next string and then the next string prevents you from shooting the previous one. So the ONLY solution is to increase your accuracy in hitting them as they initially come out to the left and then move to the right (at the top of the screen). If you’re the way I was when I was at that level, I was missing with a LOT of my shots. Each time a shot would miss its intended target, I was creating more pieces that had to be destroyed. In this level, you just can’t afford that. There’s not enough time. So the key to the whole thing is working on your accuracy. If you’ll get to the point that you can accurately place your shots, you will easily defeat this round.

In summary, there’s not a real trick to this round. It’s JUST learning accuracy in placing your shots. In many of the other levels, it’s easy enough that you can be inaccurate and still win. That won’t work in Khufu’s Revenge. Khufu was my worst nemesis in this game. :-)

hi, accurancy is definitely the key..notice, level 2-4 is also a slower version of khufu, so think how you play the level when your’re there and keep some of that strategey for later at 5-4 and 8-4 which is a KILLER!! take out your large strands first and try never to leave anything less than 2 in a row for colors. the next hope is that you get some help with color bombs and lightening bolts!! by the time the bottom fills, your best hope is to take out a strand then shoot THROUGH the row to the ones moving toward the pyramid. good luck. anyone with anymore 8-4 strategy, please let me know!!

I’m just glad to know that others are having the same difficulty with 5-4 that I did and 8-4 that I still do. I don’t think that I did anything outstanding to get past level 5-4. I think the game was just programed that after my 500th attempt, it stopped sending as many strings. That’s no joke. I’m still trying to get through 8-4 and if it looks like I’m doing well, I get a bug report, which makes me restart. That seems to be a common event with my game. I’m wondering if anyone else is having as many bug report errors as I am. I’ve had so many, I’ve stopped sending the report back with my email. I just close them and start over. I was enjoying this game immensely until having to repeat the same level so many times. I’m wondering why the gamemakers would make one level so extremely difficult.

  5. David says:

Katy, you might have gotten lucky in order to get through 5-4 or your skills might have been improving with practice. I can guarantee it’s not just that you get through on the 500th try (or anything like that), because I can routinely get through it with ease now. I can also get through 8-4 easily, too, but 11-4 sometimes still makes me lose a life or two before I can make it through. Keep trying. You’ll eventually make it all the way. It’s fun and it’s worth it. :-)

BTW, I’ve never had any of the bug reports that you’re talking about, but I’ve had a few levels that would quit without any reason. The one called the Pillar of something or other was the worst about that for me. I’m playing it on a Mac, so if you’re playing on Windows, the bugs might be different in your version.

not sure how it happened but, when i finally got thru 8/4 i went thru the next stages in a hurry but i’ve been stuck at 11/4 for a long time now. i can only hope that this will break open soon. i do agree with the comment that being more accurate is the “key”

  7. DIANNA says:

i too was stuck on 5 -4 for awhile, but then it was like the game was programed that after so many trys it would let you win it.

but, now 8 – 4 – i have been on it for months and still cannot get through it, but i am now beginning to see it getting easier – it is like there are more speres of the same color in a chain coming out so that they can be hit all at once. it is like the game is going to let me win 8 – 4 in the near future. i think the game is programmed to do this.

  8. David says:

Dianna, you’re just slowly getting better at the game. I assure you that the patterns you see in the game are random. After you’ve finally gotten past 11-4 and gotten good enough to do it regularly, you’ll see what I mean. And you’ll see that other players (who haven’t played it as much as you have and learned how to do it) will consistently be killed by what you can get past. Even without watching you play, I would be willing to bet that your accuracy is improving — and that is making it seem easier to you. You slowly adjust to the speed and find out that you can actually hit what you’re aiming at. :-)

BTW, I don’t know if you’ve gone back to the earlier rounds so you’ll play 5-4 again, but you’ll eventually find that 5-4 will seem trivial to you. For me, 5-4 is almost child’s play, 8-4 is fairly easy, but I’ll still trip up every now and then on 11-4 (which is far worse than 8-4).

Good luck getting past 8-4. You’ll really pull your hair out on 11-4, but it’s worth it in the end. I’m not sure WHY it’s worth it, but it was a lot of fun for me to master it. :-)

  9. Adriana says:

  10. David says:

Adriana, 11-4 is the hardest level of the game, in my opinion. It might be making you crazy, but you CAN get past it, eventually. Honest. :-) There’s not really a trick. It is just a matter of becoming more accurate with your shot placement as well as reacting more quickly. Just keep working at it. You will win. :-)

  11. desperate says:

HELP!!!! anyone have any clues to get by level 8-4 been trying 2 weeks ready to give up.

  12. Fred says:

Just work on the accuracy. Always focus on the longest string of balls. When more than one string of balls appear, always focus the front first. At any Khufu’s level, DO NOT bother catching the life coin or other point gems, but do not miss thunderbolts and color bombs. Quickly check if the right-click color ball is available for longer strings. :) Good luck!

  13. Doh! says:

2 weeks…try 2 months, last night I was right to the end, it was giving me long color strings, lightning bolts, color changes, you name it. I had it made, I had all the strings out and thought “finally” then missed 1 shot, choked, panic!!!…cooked. You just can’t miss on 8-4, I can’t imagine what 11-4 is like, hopefully I’ll get there soon. Good luck to all who have been sucked in to this addiction

  15. Fifi says:

    Dear all,
Thanks for all the comments about Khufu’s Revenge. I’m relieved to see I’m not the only defective shooter who couldn’t get past 8-4 and now 11-4 to save my life (no pun intended). I came looking for the secret and you all have basically confirmed that there is none (except learning to shoot more accurately). One question–is there any sequence of shots or hits that guarantees a lightning bolt, color bomb, reversal, or other result? I haven’t been able to detect a pattern, but sensed there might be one…. Thanks for commenting.

  16. Esme says:

Hi everyone ive been on 8-4 for nearly 2 years now and its really bugging me
i no you say that the only trick is accuracy but is there anything else i can do and like Fifi said is the a pattern for colour bombs or lighting bolts
but i just cant seem to get past it
and ive resorted to seaching on the internet to see if there is a cheat but it hasnt been sucsessfully
it there anything you can do to help me

  17. Wylde says:

Level 5-4, 8-4, 11-4 and 13-10 are the most hardest levels in the game.

  18. Susan says:

I have been stuck on this darn level for 6 months and finally decided to look up any cheats or anything to no avail. Everytime I think I may make it I choke and misplace the ball and whammo I lost, again, how discouraging and about ready to give it up for a while!
